The Wide Point
About

We make things
that are to the point.

TheWidePoint is a small team building in Knowledge, Finance and Productivity. Everything we ship is offline, ad-free and free of accounts — the first two out of the door teach children by letting them play with the real thing. Alongside the apps we write, because working out why something should exist is half of building it. The form keeps changing; the standard doesn’t.

What we do

We build apps

Mobile and web apps in Knowledge, Finance and Productivity — built with Flutter and Next.js, designed to be simple, fast, and useful.

We write about it

Tech blogs on how we build, and finance articles on what we know. Two honest content tracks from people with skin in the game.

Our three domains

Knowledge

Apps that teach by letting you play with the thing itself — sorting shapes into where they belong, mixing pigment that behaves like real paint. Our first two releases.

Finance

Apps that help people track spending, grow wealth, and understand money — without the jargon. Being built now.

Productivity

Tools that help people build habits and keep track of what quietly renews against them. Being built now.

The journey

TheWidePoint started with a problem we had ourselves — we were building finance apps and realized there was no good resource that combined real app development knowledge with real financial insight. Most tech content ignores finance. Most finance content ignores tech.

We decided to fix that, and started building. SpendTracker came out of our own budgeting mess, and Cadence out of the subscriptions quietly renewing behind our backs. Then two for the kids in our lives — Rainbow Tumble and Color Crush, which are the first two heading to the Play Store. Each one taught us something. We wrote it all down.

The kids' apps turned out to be the same idea in a different coat. A sorting game is really about classification, and a colour mixer is really about how pigment absorbs light — both teach by letting you handle the thing rather than read about it. That is the Knowledge strand, and it is the one reaching people first. We're also working with others who want to build in these spaces. If you have an idea and want a team that understands the domain, that's where we come in.

How we work

Ship fast, learn faster

We launch early, listen to users, and improve continuously. Done beats perfect every time.

Build in public

We document our process openly — the wins, the mistakes, and the decisions in between.

Apps that earn their place

Every app we build has to solve a real problem for real people. No bloat, no fluff.

Global from day one

TheWidePoint is built for the world. Our apps and content are designed for a global audience.

Fully remote and global — our apps and content are built for everyone, everywhere.

If you like how we think

Then an app is only one of the things we could make together. We take on work where someone has a real problem and wants it solved properly — an app, a site, a series of posts, a piece of research, something that doesn’t have a name yet. The domain matters far less to us than the standard. Tell us what you’re circling — or, if you just want to help, there are three things that do more than money.
